World Environment Day marked with various functions

In the whole country, The World Environment Day was marked yesterday by organizing various programs and functions. “Many Species – One Planet, One Future”, was the main slogan of the World Environment Day 2010.
On Saturday morning, a rally was organized in Lalitpur district on the occasion of World Environment Day by Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal.
Participants in the rally were students from various schools and colleges, representatives of government and non-government organizations and locals. The rallies from different parts of the district were later converted into a mass assembly in Jawalakhel.
Surya Prasad Joshi, Secretary at Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation stressed on the need for determination for the conservation of the natural resources from different walks of society while speaking in the function.

Juddha Bahadur Gurung, Member Secretary of National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) told all parties should work seriously to minimize the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
Tankeswor Mahadev Conservation Society of the Ganeshman Singh Foundation organized different programs in Kathmandu like ‘Better Kathmandu’ program, Bishnumati River sanitation and saplings plantation program on the occasion.

Prakash Man Singh vice president of Nepali Congress and Navindra Raj Joshi chair of the Foundation planted the saplings at Tankeswor Mahadev temple area based in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13.
