“Inspite of snowfall or any other bad weather condition, we’ll held the marathon on 29th May,” said Krishna Bahadur Basnet, coordinator for the marathon and also the coach of the National Sports Council.
“This event is a collaboration of technical, medical and local support.”

As part of their regular training, some participants ran downhill, barring the snowflakes and snow-covered tracks.

Phura Sonam Sherpa, the trekking team leader, said the weather problems in this type of marathon are imminent and the team is well prepared.

Apa Sherpa, who has scaled the world’s highest peak a record 19 times, said on Thursday he will carry Hillary’s ashes with him when he attempts his 20th ascent this year. Most of Hillary’s ashes were scattered in the sea off Auckland in his native New Zealand after his death in 2008 aged 88, but Apa said some had been kept in a Buddhist monastery in the Himalayan village of Kunde in eastern Nepal.
Hillary and Sherpa Norgay Tenzing made history on May 29, 1953, when they became the first men to stand on the summit of the 8,848-metre (29,028-foot) peak.
Hillary later opened a foundation that built schools and clinics in the Solokhumbu region at the base of Everest, and Apa, 50, said he wanted to honour the New Zealander’s contribution to the Sherpa community.
“I met Hillary many times, he was a wonderful man who helped so many local people,” Sherpa told AFP after announcing plans for his 20th Everest climb at a news conference in Kathmandu. ”Without him we would have no clinics, and we would have no schools. So I am very happy to take his ashes with me to the summit.”
Apa is leading an expedition to clean up Everest, which activists say is littered with the detritus of past expeditions, including human waste and mountaineers’ corpses, which do not decompose because of the extreme cold.
The 17-member Eco Everest Expedition team will set off from Kathmandu on April 6 and hopes to bring seven tonnes of rubbish down to Base Camp, where it will be sorted for disposal.
It will be the third such expedition — the first, in 2008, brought down 965 kilos (about a ton) of rubbish, while last year’s collected six tonnes, including the wreckage of an Italian army helicopter that crashed on the mountain in 1973.

The expedition is led by world cyclist Puskar Shah who traveled 150 countries from 1998 to 2009 with message of ‘World Peace’. He will carry the flags of the countries that he had visited to top of the Mount Everest as a declaration of World Peace. The expedition plans to follow the Tenzing-Hillary root from Kathmandu to Jiri, Lukla, Namche Bazar and Everest Basecamp via cycling. From basecamp expedition will use South-col route to top of the Mount Everest.

The fundraising event will screen award winning documentary “Sherpas – The true heroes of Mount Everest” by Dr Frank Senn, Hari Thapa and Otto C Honneger on Thursday, March 11 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at Jai Nepal Hall, Hattisar.

Everest by installing their statues in Kathmandu.
The statues of brave climbers Tenzing Norgey Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary and Boris Lidanevich, a Russian national who made significant contribution to Nepal’s tourism sector by establishing the first tourist hotel, were unveiled by Tourism and Civil Aviation minister Sharat Singh Bhandari and Russian Minister for Culture, Tipalov Alexandar.
New Zealand’s Hillary, who died in 2008 at the age of 88, and Nepal’s Tenzing Norgay, who passed away in 1986 at the age of 72, climbed the 8,850-metre Everest summit in May 29, 1953, an achievement that celebrated Nepal to international arena opening the door for tourism in the country.
On Sunday, authorities uncovered the statues of the two climbers and that of Russian hotelier Boris Lisanevich, who opened Nepal’s first modern hotel in the 1950s, in recognition of their contribution to the country, Nepal Tourism Board chief Prachanda Man Shrestha said.
“Nepal was lagging behind as there was not any significant economic change following the political changes”, Minister Bhandari said at the occasion. The minister also said that government would make efforts to establish direct air service between Nepal and Russia.
The statues were jointly set up by Nepal Tourism Board and Non Resident Nepali (NRN) Association, Russia.
Nepal has already got some historic memorials on the name of these people. Such as Lukla Airport named as Tenzing-Hilary Airport and the trekking route beginning from the airport as Tenzing-Hilary trekking route etc., and now the statues are also erected. Until now no statues of foreigners were erected in public places in Nepal.
