MoTCA has suggested the government of Nepal to abandon visa fee at least for the campaign time in order to draw more foreign tourists to the country and make Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign a huge accomplishment.

Since, more than half a million foreign tourists had arrived Nepal in 2009, so the country has aimed a goal to greeting more than one million foreign tourists in 2011.

The motion have been send to Ministry of Finance to include it in the budget for fiscal year 2010/11 said, Mr. Laxman Bhattarai, Spokesperson and Joint Secretary of MoTCA.

He notified that the motion to present free-visa regime was worked out by the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 National Coordination Committee.

Recently, visitors from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries get visa free of cost whereas foreign visitors need to pay 25 U.S. dollars for visa for 15 days and 40 dollars for a month.

Nepal Visa Rules

Targeting Nepal Tourism Year 2011, the Department of Immigration(DOI) is all set to introduce hassle free online visa application system for fore visiting Nepal. After implementation of new system, a tourist can apply for visa online and collect it upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) avoiding to stand in queue for hours. Immigration officials will be able to issue visa immediately once all the details of the tourist will be available online. The system will surely decrease the time and hassle to acquire visa.

The DOI is also procuring ‘Document Examination Device’ to help quickly process visa as the device easily helps to identify foreigners in documents and passports. In addition, department is also doing feasibility study to process visa fee online.

Visa can easily be obtained from the Nepalese Embassy or Consulate office located in your region. If you have left your home country and/or you don’t have time to visit the Embassy, you can obtain visa from the following immigration offices in Nepal. Make sure to bring a few sets of your passport size photos. Visa fees are inexpensive.

Tourist Visa Extension

• Visa extension fee for 15 days or less is US$ 30 or equivalent convertible currency and visa extension fee for more than 15 days is US$2 per day.
• Tourist visa can be extended for maximum period of 150 days in a single visa year (January – December)

Gratis (Free) Visa

Graties visa for 30 days available only for tourist of SAARC counties.

Indian nationals do not require visa to enter into Nepal.

Transit Visa

Transit visa for one day can be obtained from Nepal’s immigration offices at the entry points upon the production of departure fight ticket via Tribhuban International Airport in Nepal, by paying US$5 or equivalent convertible currency.
