Chhewang Nima Sherpa, 43, went missing on October 23, after an avalanche on the 7,129-metre Mount Baruntse in the east of the country.

He went missing after his expedition had reached a height of 7,045 metres.

‘The search team was flown to Lukla yesterday,’ said Jimba Jangbu Sherpa, president of the Nepal Mountaineering Association.

‘We dropped them by helicopter at a height of 5,400 metres on Baruntse this morning,’ he added.

‘Immediately after the incident, an air search was conducted for Sherpa and his companion, who were swept away while fixing climbing ropes.’

Sherpa was only one summit short of Apa Sherpa’s record 20 climbs of Everest.

At birth, Paul Fejtek underwent nerve damage, called brachial plexus palsy, or paralysis of the arm. Due to the nerve damage he is not able to use his right hand like other people but it hasn’t detained him a bit.

Paul Fejtek’s mother motivated him on the right path, involving him up for activities such as water skiing, drum practice and judo lessons. That active involvement would lay establishment for the activities he proceeds to follow to this day.

Paul had met his wife, Denise, while studying in 10th standard but they didn’t get married until years after they graduated from college. Suitably, Paul proposed on peak of a mountain in the Canadian Rockies, because they would later see many peaks together.

Beginning in Africa in 2002, the couple from Southern California has ascended to the highest peaks on each continent. Likewise, they’ve sumitted Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro, South America’s Aconcagua, Europe’s Mount Elbrus, North America’s Mount McKinley, Carstensz Pyramid in Australasia, Vinson Massif in Antarctica and on May 23, they sumitted Mt. Everest, world’s highest peak.

Paul and Denise have been taking part in; “Seven Summits for CAF” for raising money to support benefit the ChallengedAthletes Foundation (CAF).

CAF was founded in 1987; the organization furnishes grants to help athletes with physical disabilities.

As a portion of Everybody to Everest Challenge, others joined the cause as well, taking part in the Everest climb and raising money for CAF. Their aim is raising $290,290 ($10 for each of the 29,029 ft of Mt. Everest). Paul and Denise are almost midway to their personal $50,000 fundraising target.

“Inspite of snowfall or any other bad weather condition, we’ll held the marathon on 29th May,” said Krishna Bahadur Basnet, coordinator for the marathon and also the coach of the National Sports Council.
“This event is a collaboration of technical, medical and local support.”

As part of their regular training, some participants ran downhill, barring the snowflakes and snow-covered tracks.

Phura Sonam Sherpa, the trekking team leader, said the weather problems in this type of marathon are imminent and the team is well prepared.

He started from Camp IV (South Col 7950m) at 12 midnight on May 21 and reached the peak with the members of Eco Everest expedition.

Vajpai Arjun (18 days 11 Months and 16years) is the youngest Indian to reach the summit of Mt. Everest. Nima Tshering Sherpa, Tshering Phinjo Sherpa and Arjun Vajpai started from Camp IV (South Col 7950m) at 10:24 pm on 21 May and reached the summit of Mt. Everest at 6:33 am on May 22.

Earlier, three members of the Eco Everest expedition reached the summit of Mt. Everest on May 17 at 8:11. They are:

• Mr. Dawa Tshering Sherpa, Thame Village, Nepal
• Mr. Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa, Khumjung 2, Nepal

Similarly, three members of the Lhotse Expedition 2010 Kazakhstan reached the summit of Mt. Lhotse (8516m), on 16 May at 13h40min. The members are:

• Mr. Chekhlov Vladislav – Kazakhasta

The Eco Everest Expedition 2010 is led by two times Everest conqueror, Dawa Steven Sherpa, an ardent advocate of climate change issues. Dawa Steven is the executive director of Asian Trekking (P) Ltd., and a WWF climate for Life Ambassador.

Eco Everest Expedition is ruled by Asian Trekking and emphasizes on climbing in an eco-sensitive way and field testing different methods of eco-sensitive to be taken when climbing in the Himalayas. This year, the team returned to base camp with around 5,000 pounds of old waste.

The team also brought all human waste produced by the climbers of the expedition and Sherpa. The expedition has called for submissions for others to follow suit. In this effort, the Eco Everest Expedition has also provided other expeditions on the mountain with Re-Stop bags (toilet bags).
In 2008, Eco Everest Expedition team brought 965 pounds of waste, 75 pounds of human waste from the top of the base camp. Similarly Eco Everest Expedition in 2009 brought 6,000 pounds of waste under the “Cash for Trash” program that included 115 pounds of human waste products.

The remains of an Italian military helicopter in the same year have also been recovered from the edge of the Khumbu Icefall (5486m). The helicopter crashed between Camp I and Camp II (approx. 6200m) on the Mt. Everest during the Italian Expedition to Everest in 1973. This probably shows the movement of the Khumbu Icefall (5450m) 1.3 km in the last 37 years. The Eco Everest Expedition team brought 700 kilos of the crashed helicopter.
From 2008 to date Eco Everest Expedition has gathered more than 12,000 kilograms of waste from the previous issue and more than 300 pounds of human waste products from Mt. Everest for proper disposal. The main authors of trash collection for 2008 and 2009 is by Asian Trekking and 2010 by Asian Trekking, Reinhold Messner, The North Face and The Alpine conservation.

After being victim of personal losses and household during the Dig Tsho Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) on August 3, 1985, a direct result of melting glaciers in the Himalayas has been active in raising awareness climate change impacts on the fragile mountain environment and mountain communities.
The annual “Beat the GLOF Action Run and Save the Himalaya – Khumbu Festival” program will be held from June 4, 2010 in the Khumbu region of Mount Everest. The event is organized by iDEAS, an NGO formed by Dawa Steven Sherpa and Sherwi Yondhen Tshokpa, a network of Sherpa students.

Hundreds of local, national and international runners are going to start the Action Run from Khumjung and the road trip will follow as closely as possible the path of a GLOF which is potentially dangerous glacial lakes Imja Lake, Ngozumpa Lake or Dig Tsho is to burst its banks. The same day, Save the Khumbu Himalayan Festival will be held in the village of Khumjung with the support of various organizations.
Khumbu Youth groups compete in the traditional dance song contest. The festival is to promote and preserve the mountain culture and tradition. The event is sponsored by the North Face, Asian Trekking, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Himalayan Eco-Resort & Phakding Khumjung, Agni Air, Base Camp from Namche, Lukla and Lavilla-Sherpani Paradise Lodge Lukla.

Lewis Gordon Pugh, 40, swam 1km in a glacial lake on the slopes of the highest mountain in the world is only Speedos, goggles and swim cap.

The adventurer, who uses his swimming endurance record for awareness of climate change, hopes his latest feat will draw attention to the melting of Himalayan glaciers and the water supply due to the decrease in the region.

Nicknamed “The Polar Bear Man” for his ability to survive extreme cold, Mr. Pugh plunged into the lake near Pumori Khumbu glacier at an altitude of 5,300 meter swim and finished in 22 minutes and 51 seconds.

Mr. Pugh, who swam in Antarctica and around the North Pole to draw attention to melting sea ice, not only had to cope with the water temperature of 2°C for his latest challenge, also fought against altitude sickness.
He said: “This is one of the most difficult swim I’ve ever undertaken. When swimming in the Antarctic and swim across the North Pole with the speed and aggression, but on Mount Everest, you cannot use the same tactics. Due to the altitude, you have to swim very slowly and deliberately.”

“Swimming 20 meters at full speed in the water, I felt I would drown. I lost my breath and if I swam faster I would have gone down. I was deeply concerned that I wouldn’t make up to 1 km and now I’m glad that I finally made it.”

“I realized that I had to respect this unique and ground swimming as slowly as possible – I had to swim breaststroke to breathe better. I had to find a delicate balance between going too fast and slow, in which case it could stifle a result of hyperventilation, and if too slow the risk of dying of hypothermia. ”

Calling on governments worldwide to combat climate change a priority, Mr. Pugh said he was disappointed that the issue was not significant in the general election.

Romero scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa at the age of 9 years and aims to climb the highest summit of the seven continents. He has only one left.
