The Austrian News Agency says, a 35 yr old Swedish mountaineer and skier Fredrik Ericsson has died on K-2 while attempting to capture the world’s 2nd highest peak.
The agency mentions members of his expedition as stating the accident happening on Friday during an unexpected warm spell that raised the danger of the climb.
Companion climber Christian Stangl told APA that fog also intervened with the climb.
At 8,611 meters (28,250 feet), the summit in the Chinese-Pakistani border area is the 2nd topmost after Mount Everest, at 8,848 meters (29,030 feet).
Ministry spokesman Anders Jorle said, “Sweden’s Foreign Ministry was notified about the accident by Ericsson’s family, but was expecting for local authorities to approve his death.”
A posting made by a companion on Ericsson’s official website on Aug. 4 said the warm situation had swift a lot of motion on the mountain and that avalanches and rock fall could be heard all day.
The site characterized Ericsson as an eager climber and skier who voyaged to mountain peaks all over the world to do photo shoots for ski magazines, websites and sponsors.
He had made many journeys to the Himalayas and was operating on a project to ski the world’s 3 tallest peaks, Mount Everest, K2 and Kanchenjunga.
