Spanish Mountaineer offered to be Tourism Good Will Ambassador for “Nepal Tourism Year 2011”

For Nepal’s national tourism campaign “Nepal Tourism Year 2011” a Spanish mountaineer Edurne Pasaban was asked to be the good will ambassador.
Mr. Laxman Bhattarai, Joint Secretary at Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation announced the offer to the Spanish mountaineer in a program organized at Kathmandu Saturday evening to felicitate Edurne for climbing all the 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in the world.
Mr. Bhattarai stated that, “Government of Nepal offers her to be the goodwill ambassador for Nepal Tourism Year 2011 and would like to wish her success to hold a new record in mountaineering field.”
Chief Executive Officer of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Prachanda Man Shrestha also stated that, Edurne had achieved her dreams of conquering 14 mountains above 8,000 meters of the world.
Mr. Prachanda further said, “It’s not only her achievement but all those who believe in adventure. In this light, we are offering her to be the goodwill ambassador of all those who loves Himalayas,” and being a goodwill ambassador to Nepal Tourism Year 2011, Edurne will help to attract more mountaineers in Nepal for adventure tourism.
Edurne who is 36 years old started her journey of summiting the 14 highest mountains in 2001, when she first climbed Mt. Everest(Qomolangma) on May 23 from Nepal route and she finished the feat after conquering Mt. Shisha Pangma (8,035 meters) on May 17, 2010.
