Nepali cultural fest in Sydney on New Year

The Embassy of Nepal in Canberra hosted a dinner and cultural programme at Stamford Plaza hotel in Sydney to celebrate the New Year 2066 BS on April 14.

Nepalese Ambassador to Australia Yogendra Dhakal, and Verginia Judge, Minister for Fair Trading, Minister for Citizenship, and Minister Assisting the Premier on the Arts attended the function and jointly launched the Nepalese Food and Cultural Festival.

Extending her New Year greetings to the Nepalese, Minister Judge expressed pleasure to get an opportunity to launch the Nepalese food and cultural festival, which she termed as historic event for Nepalese in Australia. She appreciated the efforts of the embassy and the community on maintaining Nepalese originality to add flavors in Australian multiculturalism. The Minister also assured her support and cooperation for the well being of the Nepalese community living in Australia.

Ambassador Dhakal highlighted different aspects of bilateral relations and expressed his confidence that tourism can be instrumental in enhancing further people to people contact between Nepal and Australia.

Executive Director of Nepal Tourism Board Prachanda Man Shrestha shed light on policies and programme of the present government on tourism development including Nepal Tourism Year 2011.

The festival jointly organised by the embassy and the Stamford Plaza hotel will continue till April 26.
