Nepal to Launch International Air Show and Para-motor Championship

On Tuesday Nepali Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation gave permission to launch “International Air Show and Para-motor Championship” in the country which is first of its kind.
A private company named Avia Club Nepal has got the permission to organize such event focusing on national tourism campaign “Nepal Tourism Year 2011” on January 11, 2011 said, Birendra Kumar Singh, under secretary at Tourism ministry.
Avia Club Nepal combining with Nepal Air Sports Association which is the member of Federation of International Aeronautics, took the responsibility to organize the event in Nepal as a supporting component of NTY-2011.
Avia Club Nepal is based in Pokhara 140 km west from Kathmandu; it has been providing sightseeing tours around Nepal. It is the first and recently the only aviation club that exists in Nepal, organizing functions since 1996.
Manager of Avia Club Mr. Barun Shrestha said, “At Tundikhel in Kathmandu, during the inaugural session of NTY-2011, almost 40 well trained pilots from 40 countries and regions will be flying 40 Para-motors up to 5,000 feet (some 1,500 meters) height from sea level”.
Regarding Barun Shrestha 40 different flags of 40 different countries and regions will be swinging from each of the para-motors that will mark the event more fascinating for foreigners and Nepali people.
Mr. Shrestha further said, since para-motor is a part of adventure tourism, after inaugural session in Kathmandu Tundikhel we are thinking to launch a cross-country championship from Bandipur-Bharatpur without disturbing other air traffic route.
Ultra light flight, paragliding, para-motor and hang gliding will follow as a part of this big 10-day long event.
