Nepal honoring 100 Everest heroes including Indians

Nepal’s Mountaineering Association has stated that more than 100 Everest successful climbers from all over the world including Indian climbers will be honored during a special function to mark the third International Everest Day.
Some of the nominees are as follows:
- Peter Hebler from Austria, the first person to climb Everest without oxygen
- Appa Sherpa, 20 times climber
- Major HPS Alhuwaliya, a war hero and acclaimed mountaineer who also climbed Mt. Everest
- Arjun Bajpayee, the youngest Indian to climb the Everest
President of Nepal Mountaineering Association, Aang Tshering Sherpa said that, they will be felicitated on May 29, the day when Tenzing Sherpa and Edmund Hillary set a record by summiting the Everest for the first time in 1953.
Others who will be attending the occasion are:
- Chris Bonington, renowned mountaineer and writer
- L Jirasko, president of International Alpinism Festival
- Richard Blum president of American Himalayan foundation
The Goodwill Ambassador of SAARC will be honored to Appa Sherpa and Tenzing Hillary Award will be given to a person who has substantially contributed for the development of Khumbu region near the Mt. Everest.
On May 29, in Kathmandu, a rally will be organized comprising mountaineers, travel entrepreneurs, government officials, industry leaders, media persons and trekking agency representatives.
