Intrepid Cyclist’s Target: Mt. Everest

Mr. Pushkar Shah, a young brave Nepalese cyclist has finally got victory upon 150 countries with his bicycle. Mr. Puskar Shah, son of a peace-keeping soldier had started his journey of world tour in 1998 and plans to secure his goal till to 2010 including the cycling tour to Everest. He speaks that the main objective of his world cycling tour is not for the international fame or material gain but simply for spreading the message of ‘peace’ all over the world. Further, he has recently uncovered one of his future plans to climb the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest with the flags of all countries which he has collected during his “World Peace Cycling Tour” trip.
According to Puskar, his father, a peace-keeping soldier who died in 1986, is the main source of inspiration for his World Peace Cycling Tour. Mr. Shah has almost cycled all the major countries of world especially of Africa, America and Europe to spread his world peace message. He further anticipates that he will go around 390,000km (242,334 miles) by the beginning of his climb to Everest next year via cycling trip to world.
The journey of Mr. Shah was not as easy as we think. He spent several frustrating and dreadful hours. He said that he was kidnapped and robbed while he was in Mexico; however, he was lucky and was able to escape from there. He was again beaten and knocked unconscious in his tent while traveling in Barbados. Additionally, his bicycle was also stolen in New Zealand, but the former Mt. Everest defeater, Sir Edmund Hilary presented him with a new one. Not only this, he remembers the time during his trip eating offensive foods like discarded orange skins, wild fruits from trees and plants. Despite of the awful circumstances, this fearless and ever optimist cyclist is buoyant to go on due to love and support of people who offered him kindness and hospitality during his voyage.
The most interesting fact is that he has not been ill once while his journey – “not even a headache,” he says cheerfully. He further says that he visits clubs and schools of different communities while in his trip. There he offers speeches about peace and need to live in harmony, respect for human rights, democratic values, other’s religion and cultures etc., and he finds his real achievement in these activities.
The fact that he started his journey of world peace tour with only rupee ($1.50) and blessing of his mother is a very heart paining and emotional fact of his life. But after his goal and emotional fact was explored to public, he started to get cash donations, which led him to secure his goal successful. He further says that does not spend his money for accommodations but only for airline tickets because he has been getting incessant proposes of help and shelter throughout his trip.
The most inspiring thing Mr. Shah says is “If you see a Nepalese guy panting and puffing on a bicycle with a sticker ‘I ride therefore I am’ please yield and for one second think about how you as an individual can contribute to world peace.”
