Gosainkunda residents feeling early chills

Local residents near Gosainkunda are amazed over early snowfall, last year snowfall had started only around mid-November. This is also sign of climate change and Nepal’s mountain residents are living under threat of ‘Glacial Lake Outburst Flood’ (GLOF).

Gosainkunda is a lake in Nepal in Rasuwa District, which is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus. The site is situated at the height of 4,280m from sea level. According to legend, the lake was formed after lord Shiva pierce a glacier with his Tirshul(his weapon, three pointed sword) to obtain cold water to quench the overwhelming heat of the poison which he drank from Samudramanthan that threatened to destroy the world.
