An exploration SBS TV program reignited a debate over whether female sumitter Oh Eun-Sun has climbed all of the world’s 14 tallest summits, calling into query her climb of the 8,586-meter Kangchenjunga in May last year.

The program “Want to Know,” aired Saturday night, presenting a pair of latest statement contradictory with Oh’s claim.
One of the latest provocations was about a flag from her alma mater she holded to take a photo with at the summit.
The flag was retrieved by a Korean sumitter about 50 to 60 meters below the peak.

Oh had discussed she strayed the flag on her way to the peak and didn’t recall where the flag went lost.
But the program presented that the flag tucked in her jumper in photos she allegedly carried at the peak of the Kangchenjunga. Photo specialists affirmed the flag in the photos looked similar to the one retrieved by the Korean sumitter.
In accordance to SBS, program staffers tried to contact Oh to inquire about this flag, but she denied to explain about it.
The program also emphasized controverting verdicts among Sherpas escorting Oh’s expedition. One asserted Oh came back after attaining 150 meters below the peak, while the other said she accomplished it.

This confusion first came outside last December brought up by domestic peers and then blew into an international issue when the 44-year-old submitted the peak of 8,091-meter Annapurna in April to assert that she was the first woman to top the earth’s 14 tallest peaks, edging out archrival, Edurne Pasaban from Spain.
In an interview with the program, Elizabeth Hawley, an 86-year-old American journalist relishing judge-like status in professional trekking, said Oh’s sumitting of Kangchenjunga remains “not proven.”

A 28 yr old Japanese resident Nobukazu Kuriki is trying to ascent Mt. Everest alone without oxygen this autumn.
Kuriki said, “It’s been around 40 yrs since a Japanese has climbed Mt Everest.”

Kuriki has already ascended three mountains above 8,000 meters heights. They are Mt Cho Oyu in 2007, Mt Manaslu in 2008, and Mt Dhaulagiri in 2009. Among the 7 peaks, Kuriki has ascended 6 peaks.

Kuriki said, “Youngsters in Japan are more fascinated to technology than nature. Anyway, my effort to ascend Mt Everest will produce thrill among the youngsters to visit Nepal and ascend the Everest.”

Mr. Prachanda Man Shrestha, chief executive officer of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), passed him the flag of Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 and a pass to ascend Mt Everest.

Mr. Shrestha said that number of Japanese visitors to Nepal was around 45,000 until some time ago while the number has recently fallen to 20,000 – 25,000. This effort to ascend Everest by a Japanese will certainly help boost Nepal and bring more Japanese visitors this year.

In accordance to NTB, the effort of Kuriki to ascend Everest will be recorded and shown by Tokyo Channel 12.
Mr. Laxman Bhattarai, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) said, “Kuriki will be charged half of the regular royalty as he is ascending the summit in autumn season. Autumn itself is a tough season and there are little number of reservations made for this season.”

Mr. Bhattarai also notified that the effort to ascend Everest in autumn season will also help boost the season for mountaineering.

All of the country’s main political leaders, business people and Industrialist’s have explicited their obligation to stamp 2011 a peaceful year in order to greet as many travelers as possible.

Many new religious and cultural allurements will be appended to Nepal’s tourism proposing to complement the traditional attraction of mountaineering, trekking and visiting temples.

People who attain the peak of Everest next year will be dignified as goodwill ambassadors for the NTY program, while those who attained the Dhaulagiri Mountain will be allowed free visas for voyage to the country throughout 2011.
The Nepal Tourism Board will be among the attendees at the World Travel Market in London later this year.
Oman Air has also proclaimed this month that it will be appending the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu to its network from Muscat in September.

Canadian explorers say that, they think they’ve fixed a historic debate about the 1st men to capture the peak of Mt. Everest in the Himalayas.
Britain’s Daily Telegraph stated that, one of mountaineering’s much furiously debated dispute is whether Britons George Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the 1st people to attain the peak when they endeavored the ascend in 1924.
Explorers say that, they now think the pair could not have attained the peak and demised during a harsh storm that would have stripped them of oxygen.

Scientists at the University of Toronto told that, meteorological information gathered at the time of the 1924 attempt shows Mallory and Irvine were covered in a snowstorm that saw oxygen submerged to deadly low levels.
Scientists say, modern information unfolds that there was a disastrous decrease in barometric pressure which would have killed any mountaineer on the approach to the peak.

They estimated the unexpected decrease in oxygen levels was even larger than one that killed 8 mountaineer’s on Everest on a single day in May 1996.

The discovery emerged to approve that New Zealander Sir Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay were the 1st mountaineer’s to scale the 29,035-foot peak in 1953.
