Climbing Mount Everest for good cause

LIG Insurance CEO Koo Chan-Joo is taking on special mission other than his usual business. He is leading an expedition that aims at opening up the ‘Everest Korean route’. The team will climb Mount Everest from southwest face of the mountain, which is one of the most difficult trails of Mount Everest.
Mr. Koo is scheduled to climb Mount Everest from Lukla town located at Eastern Nepal, from 2,840 meters above sea level to base camp located 5,364 meters; in total he will climb 2,524 meters and donate 1,000 won for every meter. Donation will go to a scholarship fund for children of car accident victims. He will leave for Mount Everest on April 27, 2009.
“Marathons and expeditions go hand in hand with the spirit of challenge, which is indispensable for a businessman. The idea of helping kids as I overcome challenges gives me greater motivation and courage,” Koo said.
Since, participating Berlin Marathon he has been donating children of car accident victims 100 won for every one meter he has run and raised 40 million won so far. In addition, he has led expedition teams to K2, South Pole, North Pole, Vinson Massif, Ama Dablam and to Mount Everest number of times.
