The festival would be organized in Tikaulichaur of Ratnanagar Municipality-7. Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai is scheduled to inaugurate the festival.

Coordinator of the organizing committee, Dipak Kumar Karmacharya said, as many as 350 stalls would be kept in the festival.

Ratnanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Ratnanagar Municipality are organizing the festival every two years.

Organizers said that industrial, agricultural and tourism promotion related local arts and culture, and locally-produced goods would be kept on display in the stalls.

According to the Immigration Department, 580,337 tourists visited Nepal with the last 11 months of this year. The number was 509,752 during the same period last year.

The highest number of tourists came from India with 104,000 followed by Sri Lanka 45,285 and China 38,892.

DoI officer Mohan Poudel said that several efforts made by governmental and non-governmental agencies to bring in more tourists helped to increased tourists.

Development in tourism infrastructure and effective management, including arrangement of home-stay and additional number of air flights, also lured tourists, he added.

The Sagarmatha Bazaar, Thamel has announced its annual Mandala Street Festival 2010. At the press meet on October 20 it was informed that the festival will be held from October 22 to 24.
The non-profitable effort to organise the three-day festival is to support Nepal Tourism Year 2011 and promote Thamel on the whole. This annual festival — after the success and appreciation it received last year — is being hosted to promote the uniqueness of the privately owned pedestrian street — Mandala Street.

“Our main intention to organise the festival is to set Mandala Street as an example that there are good places in Thamel. We also want tourists to feel and experience the street as streets of their countries, peaceful and without hustle and bustle,” said Max Khatri, the festival coordinator.
The festival will showcase different specialities of different cultures of Nepal. It will include fun fair and various activities. The highlights of the festival will be urban canyoning and horizontal bungee. With barbecue, food and beverage stalls, there will be separate corner for children, which will be the ultimate game zone for them. There will be equally interesting and intriguing activities for adults as well.

Also get ready to be entertained with skate board show, b-boying, yoga sessions, free make-up and beauty tips.
Focusing on the tourists, cultural dances from 14 districts will be performed to showcase the different cultures of Nepal. The evening will be lit up with cultural programmes and concert. Rudra, Rock Sitar and Kutumba will be performing on the three different days respectively. A special band from Switzerland will perform to make the festival more musical.

The event was organized to celebrate World Tourism Day, which was began with a cultural dance by the students of New Summit School. The official inauguration and launch was done by Byakul Maila by lighting the paanas. The song composed by Rahul Pradhan and sung by well-known singers like Rajesh Payal Rai, Ram Krishan Dhakal and its video features celebrities like Rajesh Hamal, Malvika Subhha and Hem Subedi among others.

On the occasion, Byakul Maila said “Nepal is a very beautiful country naturally and culturally. Tourism should be developed in order to develop the country and its economy”.

Measuring 22 inch, 17-year old Khagendra, will head to London on October 11 to be officially conferred the title of the shortest man in the world by Guinness World Records.

The CEO of NTB, Prachanda Man Shrestha said “We expect Khagendra to promote tourism by taking part in various promotional activities to be launched by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) abroad”. Shrestha also added that Khagendra will also accompany officials during Nepal’s participation in the World Tourism Mart to be held in London this year.

The government also appointed Miss Nepal crown holder Sadichha Shrestha as brand ambassadors to promote tourism in the country.

NTB Executive Chief Prachanda Man Shrestha said, “Peace Photo Exhibition” has been targeted to tourists who are visiting on the occasion of the Nepal Toursim Year-2011. He also stressed the need of promoting positive thinking.

This exhibition has been organized in all 75 districts of Nepal and three editions of a book including photos and the painful experiences in the form of songs and lyrics have been published.

The collection is open for viewing by general public at the Madan Pustakalya in Patan Dhoka from 11am to 4pm with free entrance.
